Types of inclusions in gemstones
There are different ways to classify inclusions in minerals. We can use the types of phase filling, the number of different phases included, time of inclusion formation, the host mineral species, etc.
Below we present our inclusions classification used for this site. Every type of inclusions is described in detail in corresponding sections. You can click on the links below to go directly to different inclusions type descriptions.
Inclusions types:
By phase filling
Single-phase inclusions
- Solid
- Liquid
- Gaseous
Two-phase inclusions
- Liquid-vapor
- Liquid-liquid
- Liquid-solid
- Solid-gaseous
By time of entrapment (relative to the host crystal)
For solid inclusions
- Protogenetic
- Syngenetic
- Epigenetic
For fluid inclusions
- Primary
- Pseudosecondary
- Secondary
